Dr. Bahati

Dr. Bahati, a remarkable young soul of about seven or eight years old, radiates warmth and an infectious smile that lights up the entire village. Though her full story is still unfolding, one thing about her is clear: she is destined for greatness. From the moment she boldly declared her future ambition of becoming a medical doctor, she earned the affectionate title of Dr. Bahati,  ♥️  which we all use with pride and admiration.

Her determination is a testament to her incredible spirit. Even at her young age, she is already inspiring those around her. In January, during our time in the village, she was inseparable from  our own Dr. Brisa, Ph.D., a Food Chemist. Dr. Bahati, happily soaked up every moment of connection and learning with Brisa. We also introduced her to  ♥️  Dr. J, (Julius,) the compassionate medical doctor who visits the village daily to ensure the children receive the best care. Meeting Dr. J was a powerful moment for Dr. Bahati, bridging the dreams of a young girl with the reality of someone who ♥️ embodies her aspirations.

Dr. Bahati’s vision and enthusiasm remind us that greatness knows no age, and her story is one we are eager to follow. Her journey is just beginning, and I look forward to sharing more about her as I learn from George this week. One thing is certain: Dr. Bahati is a beacon of hope, a shining example of what dreams, determination, and a warm heart can achieve.

Her determination is a testament to her incredible spirit.

Angel’s story begins in darkness but blossoms into something extraordinary—a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It was an ordinary Thursday in Dar es Salaam when Anita’s cries pierced the heavy air of a quiet neighborhood.

She was just seven years old, her small frame enduring the blows of her own mother’s rage. A passerby witnessed the horror, silently filming the scene from a safe distance. Though they didn’t step in, their decision to share the video with the police set a chain of events in motion.

But it was another witness, a stranger with courage in their heart, who finally intervened, stopping the abuse before it could go any further. The police acted swiftly. Within hours, they found Anita bruised, broken, and trembling with fear. ♥️

She was rushed to the hospital, her tiny body bearing the physical scars of unimaginable pain. But the deeper wounds—the ones etched into her soul—would take far longer to heal. George, the heart of our village and the man who has built a sanctuary for children like Anita, received the call. When the police explained what had happened, he didn’t hesitate. “Bring her to us,” he said firmly. “She belongs in a place where love can heal her.”

Angel stayed in the hospital for a few days, under the watchful care of doctors who treated her injuries. But it wasn’t just her body that needed mending—it was her spirit, shattered by years of abuse. When she was finally discharged, George was there waiting for her, his warm smile the first gentle touch she had known in far too long.

From the moment Anita stepped into the village, she was surrounded by love. The other children welcomed her like a long-lost sister, and the adults enveloped her in a sense of safety she had never known.

Slowly, she began to heal. George often says that while the children never forget the abuse, they find solace in the oasis of love and safety the village provides.

Anita’s transformation was nothing short of extraordinary. One day, only a few months after her arrival, she stood in the middle of the courtyard, her voice steady and resolute. “I am not Anita anymore,” she declared, her small face lit with a newfound strength. “The woman who hurt me called me Anita. From today, ♥️  call me Angel. ♥️

Her words hung in the air, a powerful proclamation of rebirth. She had chosen a name that reflected not her past, but her future—a future filled with hope, love, and light.

Angel is now a beacon in our village, her story a symbol of what it means to overcome. She carries her scars with pride, not as reminders of pain, but as proof of her resilience. When she laughs, it is pure and free, a sound that fills the hearts of everyone around her. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day, so she can inspire others the way she has been inspired by the love in her new home.

Angel’s journey is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is light waiting to be found. She is not just a survivor; she is a testament to the power of love, courage, and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.

The Triplets

“It was Jorge's birthday on December 23rd., 2023, but he left Dar es Salaam on a bus to go to Dodoma Village to speak to the head of the Village Chief Mihujo Joseph. After the Chief was satisfied with George, he was introduced to the children's grandparents who were the boy's only guardians since their parents were both dead. Since the grandparents were not able to take care of the boys, George was allowed to bring the two brothers we call BB1 (Bus Boy 1) and BB2 (Bus Boy 2) to the home in Dar es Salaam. We could not celebrate his birthday because the internet connection on his 20 hour bus trip was bad.” The Grandparents of these boys have since donated their 9 acres of land in Dodoma to us.

When Jorge returned from his trip, in Dec 2023 someone had dropped off the
triplets so in one week he had 5 new children.

The Triplets and Dr. Bahati

The triplets in Dec 2024. They do not look afraid anymore as they did in Dec. 2023.

We call her Dr. Bahati because she has decided she will be a doctor when she grows up. The triplets have been with us for almost one year and they are happy, healthy and doing well in school.

JAN 23rd., 2025 – HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Triplets.

Dori

When a child arrives in our village with no past, life hands us a blank page to write a story of love, hope, and belonging. These children come with an unspoken longing to be seen and understood. I see it as a chance to create both a past to ground them and sometimes even suggest a future to inspire them—a gift of identity and possibility.

Found crying on the streets of Dar es Salaam, Dori came to us with no family and no name. We became her family, giving her a new beginning. Dori’s quiet strength and natural generosity revealed her extraordinary spirit. While we shape her story, it is Dori’s heart that will define it—and what a beautiful story it will be.

A Star’s Journey The Forgotten Beginning I can only imagine that before Dori came to the bustling streets of Dar es Salaam, she lived in a quiet village nestled by the ocean, where the sound of waves hummed like a lullaby each night.

Dori and Brisa

Her earliest years were a blur of laughter, coconut trees, and her mother's warm embrace. Her mother, Mariam, was a seamstress with a laugh that could light up a room, and her father, Juma, was a fisherman who sang traditional Swahili songs as he mended his nets. They were not wealthy, but love filled their modest home.

One stormy night, as the wind roared and rain lashed at the windows, a tragedy struck. The small fishing boat her father and other villagers had taken out never returned. Days turned to weeks, and hope dwindled. Mariam, heartbroken and burdened with grief, struggled to provide for Dori.

Soon after, illness struck Mariam, leaving Dori alone too soon. Not knowing what to do, little Dori got on a bus and dismounted in the bustling city of Dar es Salaam. Dori wandered from one kind stranger to another, each offering her a morsel of food or a warm word, until she found herself alone in the city, lost and crying. A kind family took her in convinced she was lost. Nothing about Dori suggests that she was abandoned or escaping abuse, instead she behaves like a little princess. After two weeks of being unable to find any clues about Dori, the family brought her to us.  ♥️

The Turning Point

When she arrived at the center, her big, curious eyes scanned her new world. Though cautious at first, she quickly found warmth in the arms of her new family. She loved listening to the stories Brisa told, and her favorite moments were when everyone sat in a circle, holding hands and singing together.

Dori thrived in the nurturing environment, her natural generosity shining through in the way she shared her toys and food, always making sure others felt loved.

Her love for storytelling emerged early. Dori would sit under the huge baobab tree and tell fantastic tales to the other children, weaving stories of brave girls who overcame giants and dragons. Her imagination painted vibrant pictures that left her audience wide-eyed and giggling.

The Future Beckons

By the time Dori was ten, it was clear she was special. Her curiosity about the world and her empathy for others set her apart. When Brisa and I first visited the village she was about 6-years-old, we immediately connected with her and we secretly decided to adopt her. Bringing her and 7 other of our children with us to live with us Europe, India and the Caribbean. Dori’s world expanded as she met children from all walks of life, learning about science, mathematics, and history, but it was storytelling that remained her passion.

At sixteen, Dori won a national writing competition in Monte Carlo, where we live 8 months out of the year, with a story based on her experiences. The tale of a young girl who triumphed over loss and found a family touched the hearts of thousands. Publishers soon reached out, and Dori’s first book, The Baobab Tree Chronicles, became a bestseller. She used the proceeds to help us support other children in need, funding education programs and building safe homes for street children.

A Future Full of Love and Accomplishment

As an adult, Dori became an influential author, philanthropist, and advocate for children’s rights. Her stories—rooted in resilience and hope—became a beacon of inspiration for millions around the globe. She expanded our organization, building schools, providing healthcare, and offering emotional support for orphaned and abandoned children in East Africa.

Dori never forgot the warmth and kindness of George and the others who became her second family. Every year, she visited them in the village, bringing books, laughter, and memories. On one such visit, she met a young teacher named Amani, who shared her passion for education and storytelling. Their connection was instant, and they soon built a life together, their home filled with books, love, and laughter.

At the foundation’s 20th anniversary, a beaming Dori stood on stage, surrounded by children whose lives they had transformed. As she began her speech, her voice broke slightly with emotion.

“I was once a little girl crying on the streets, but love gave me a second chance. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that even the smallest kindness can change someone’s world. Thank you for being part of this journey.” The audience erupted in applause, but Dori’s eyes sought out Brisa in the front row. She smiled and nodded, silently thanking the woman who had carried her into a new life.

♥️ The Legacy of Dori ♥️

Years later, Dori’s books continued to inspire, their organization expanded to countless countries, and her story became a legend. Children everywhere dreamed of being like Dori—not just a survivor but a thriver, a dreamer, and a doer who turned life’s hardships into a story of love and accomplishment.

And through it all, Dori remained the same kind, generous soul who once stepped down so another child could be carried. She never forgot the importance of warm human contact, of love, and of giving back.
